This past weekend as I mentioned in Monday’s post. I was in Carmel-by-the-Sea. It was idyllic, and I’m already missing the sweet serenity and charm of the little coastal town. We were only there for one full day and started it off by enjoying the foggy overcast morning, sipping warm drinks, and eating homemade pumpkin and corn bread. We then got dressed and headed into town for a day of window shopping! In preparation for the trip, I wanted to get a new piece, and the one item at the top of my list this season was a big cozy marled cardigan. I found the perfect one (honestly, I love it so much!) and am styling it two ways in today’s post.
I love cold cloudy mornings more than anything, and waking up to the chill meant an extra layer was not optional. I knew my ideal cozy cardigan would be oatmeal or cream-colored, not too pricey, comfortably thick, and oversized — something I could snuggle into. I searched high and low and continuously came up dry. Then I found this one for under $50, just barely in my price range. With the temperature hovering around 50 degrees, it was cold enough to give it a try and by mid-morning, I knew I had made a worthwhile purchase. It is truly the comfiest thing, and perfect paired with my favorite gray joggers, and striped shirt, and cream socks.
Changing into my “day” outfit, the sweater transitioned effortlessly. I paired it with jeans and a button-down for a relaxed look. I love how the cardigan layers nicely over a collared shirt. Even though it is on the longer side, it didn’t overwhelm my small frame (I’m about 5’3″). I know it will be extra versatile with other looks this fall! We popped into small local shops and more mainstream stores too (they have a Vineyard Vines, Kate Spade, J.Crew, Anthropologie, etc.) and ate organic eatery Carmel Belle for lunch.
Though any pinstripe button down would have paired well with this outfit, this one (which is unfortunately sold out) has scallops along the collar and sleeves. These small details are transformative and add a feminine flair to the shirt. I found this collared top which is similar basic, and this white blouse has scallops along the collar and sleeves.
As for shoes, these oxfords may look familiar from this post. Only a few weeks into autumn, and I’ve gotten so much use out of them! They’re a favorite for days where I might be walking, and for $25, a complete steal!
I loved visiting Carmel and hope to go back soon!! And regarding the sweater, you will undoubtedly see it pop up in future posts — I’m so excited to have it fall and winter.
