New York Itinerary 2018 Part 2

Happy Friday! Yay for the weekend — I am definitely in need of one! 😉 Going through these New York pictures just reaffirms how grateful I am to have gone on this little adventure. If you missed Part 1, read about it here! Today, I present you with Part 2!

Day 3 — My Birthday!

I woke up, 21! We toasted at midnight (of course) with a glass of champagne at the hotel bar — me in pajamas, make-up-less. 😉 Then hurried into bed so we could get up early.

We kicked off the morning at Balthazar, my favorite restaurant in the city. It’s like a party each time you walk in — bubbly, and bright, and bursting with life. A tall man in a suit arrived at our table shortly after we sat down, 2 glasses of champagne on a silver plate in his hand! The whole affair was pure magic! We ordered tons of food — coffee, sides of toast, Sour Cream Hazelnut Waffles topped with warm berries, and the Ratatouille Omelet filled with fresh vegetables. I can’t even articulate how perfect this whole moment was — I just felt so sublimely happy. The staff at Balthazar had one more surprise up their sleeve — a Lemon and Mascarpone Mousse topped with blackberry coulis and caramelized filo!!

Then it was a day of full-fledge shopping. The weather was amazing — so sunny!! Honestly, SoHo has to be some of my favorite shopping in the whole city — every street is a new row of stores, and it’s all so cute and compact. We stopped by the new SĂ©zane store, which was beautiful. I tried on at least a dozen items just for the fun of it and left with this green sweater and some pastries and tea! 😉 I love that you can move the bow between the front and the back — so versatile! Some favorite stores we stopped by were Fresh (the ladies were too kind and gave me a birthday surprise!!), Club Monaco, ChloĂ©, Burberry, Birchbox and Mansur Gavriel.

We also had to buy a huge box of macarons from LadurĂ©e seeing as they’re my all-time favorite! Nothing tastes quite like them — the macarons are impeccable. (P.S. You may remember this outfit from this post!)

After heading back to our hotel to change and freshen up, we made our way back down to SoHo. I was lucky enough to celebrate with friends — Jacqueline and Alexandra made it out to Manhattan to toast my special day at Rubirosa. If you haven’t been, go. The pizza is unreal! (And considering a lot of acclaimed pizzerias happen to be in Brooklyn, this Manhattan option is perfect if you can’t get over there!) We ordered large dishes for the table: the Calamari Fritti, the Arugula Insalata, and a large pizza, half Vodka, half Fresca. Sooooooo good!! My mom even bought little Sugarfina champagne gummy bears for the table (she was so on-theme!). We finished the night with cocktails at Butter, to complete the most perfect and special birthday a girl could ask for.

Day 4

Our final full day, we immediately headed out the door. First on our agenda was breakfast at Bluestone Lane on the Upper East Side (the Aussie café has locations scattered all over the city). Everything here is incredible Instagrammable, the shop and food are just too photogenic! We ordered a Breakfast Bowl (sautéed kale, cherry tomatoes, feta, avocado, red quinoa & poached egg) with chorizo.

After breakfast, we embarked on a leisurely, rambling hour-long walk through Central Park. Gosh, nothing makes me more peaceful or content! Even though it’s winter and all of the plants are dormant, there is still such beauty in the grandness of the park. Fredrick Law Olmstead (the designer) did well. We were christened with music and Bethesda Fountain and grabbed some warm Nuts 4 Nuts (if you know, you know!) from a local street vendor. Snacking on warm caramelized almonds, listening to an “Ave Maria” serenade, I wanted to cry out of sheer joy.

We shopped all along 5th Ave, moving from the Plaza (hello, Eloise!) all the way down to Rockefeller Center.

We grabbed some cheese and crackers for late-night snack at the Grand Central Market and took the subway to SoHo for afternoon tea and sweets at LadurĂ©e . One Ispahan (smooth rose flavored macaron biscuit, rose petal cream, fresh raspberries and lychees) and ElysĂ©e (cocoa biscuit, crispy praline, chocolate mousse, cocoa biscuit soaked in cholate syrup) later, we were in heaven. We took the subway to the Flatiron District to do some more 5th Ave shopping and before we knew it, it was dinnertime. We headed to Tiny’s and were greeted by the warmest, coziest fireplace — an ambiance perfect for a cold winter’s night. We ordered a Kale Salad and two orders of Chickpea Kale Fries (don’t knock ’em ’til you try ’em, these were to die for!). We toasted our last night and cherished every moment.

Day 5

My heart was equally full and broken on our last day. It couldn’t have been a more beautiful trip, but I hated that it was coming to a close. A breakfast at Egg Shop was exactly what we needed — I mean, you can’t be sad over a scrumptious egg sandwich, am I right?! We designed our own with scrambled eggs, gruyere, and tomato jam on multigrain. We shopped around SoHo and got a little something sweet from Once Upon a Tart! (They had beautiful pastries and fantastic coffee!)

We headed uptown to pick up these matching monogramed New York sweatshirts from J.Crew. Pro-tip: the 5th Ave. J.Crew does complimentary monogramming on everything. And I mean, everything!! I absolutely love this matching momento my mom and I got, and you can’t tell, but our initials are stitched into the bottom corner. It’s something I’ll have forever to remind me of this incredible trip!! UNTIL NEXT TIME, NEW YORK!!
