Happy President’s Day!! I hope you all had a wonderful weekend and like me, are loving having the day off today. 🙂 Last weekend, a few friends and I headed to the city for a fun half-day adventure. The Bay Area never fails to surprise me with its diversity — beaches, city, forest — it really is the quintessential place! Here’s an easy itinerary if you’re looking for breakfast and a few sight-seeing activities!
Ok, so this little bakery has taken over Pinterest and Instagram! The cheeky “I Got Baked in San Francisco” neon sign and cruffin (croissant + muffin = cruffin) has continuously reappeared on my feed, and we decided it was about time we see what this cruffin is all about. Like most trendy establishments, obtaining one requires getting to Mr. Holmes early and waiting in line. The location opens at 8 a.m., but they don’t start selling cruffins until 9 a.m. We got there right when it opened, grabbed a coffee, and joined the cruffin line. When the time comes, an employee will pass out stickers to distinguish who gets a cruffin (1 sticker = up to 2 cruffins, while each cruffin is $4.50). The flavor changes daily and can be checked via their Instagram. We got a prickly pear/ube flavor, and let me tell you, it was experience! SO yummy — the little thing barely held up in my hands because it was so fresh! I was really full after one, but very, very worth it! 🙂
After our scrumptious breakfast, we weren’t ready to leave the city! We headed to the Palace of Fine Arts, which is just beautiful to walk through especially on a sunny day. There are swans and turtles floating in the lake around the architecture, a gorgeous grassy area to sit on, and an expansive walkway to explore. It’s picturesque, and I’m hoping to come back here and picnic before the semester ends! The whole structure is impressive and the perfect place to chat with friends, lazily pass the day, or read a book. It’s so worth checking out!
I see the Golden Gate Bridge everyday, and it never, never gets old. We figured why not head to Baker Beach to get one of the best views of the Golden Gate Bridge? [Fair warning: Baker Beach used to be a nude beach, and very few people still honor this but it can happen, so proceed at your own risk!] However, Baker Beach is stunning…to the point where it’s utterly peaceful and completely breath-taking. We kicked off our shoes and took an refreshing morning stroll. Talk about the best way to start the day!! I’ve been to Baker Beach before, but it strikes me as such a happy beach each time.
We got back to Berkeley in the early afternoon, but it was so nice to escape for a little bit (Berkeley can feel like a bubble at times). These locations can easily be integrated into a full-day itinerary or stand-alone! Regardless, I’ll take any moment I can to have some fun with friends!
Hope you get to try going to some of these spots soon! Have you been before? Is one of these on your list? Comment below!
