Happy, happy Friday!! I don’t know about you, but I’m thrilled it’s the weekend. I’ve already got brunch plans in the works for Sunday at a place I’ve been dying to try in San Francisco, so I personally am quite delighted for this weekend’s adventure. (I also have a To-Do that keeps getting longer, so it will be nice to make some progress there!) Comment below what your weekend plans are, and without further ado, here is what has been catching my attention recently:
I’m in an arts and culture writing seminar right now. Part of the class is reading selections from entertainment writers and critics (the class is broken down into television, music, actors, and personal memoir), discussing them, and then actually meeting the writer later that week — college can be so cool sometimes! Last week was our first meeting, with television critic Lili Loofbourow. Having read a selection of her pieces for class prior, I had actually worked myself up to fangirl status by the time the meeting arrived. I loved her quick wit and how effortlessly she sprinkled pop culture references throughout her work! Getting to converse with her and ask her questions was a memorable experience (I asked, “What do you think of social media’s influence on television, specifically live tweeting” and what her favorite shows were — which by the way, are Arrested Development, War Therapy, and Comeback, to name a few). She was as cool as a cucumber and her writing voice was evident when she spoke. I highly recommend checking out her work — this article is captivating if you too love Gilmore Girls or this piece about the influence of Friends.
It’s the most wonderful time of the year — oh yes, summer New York Fashion Week. HOW I WISH I COULD BE THERE!!! Or actually just New York, period. I don’t know about you, but I’ve been meticulously following along on all blogger and influencer’s Instagrams and stories. Everything looks incredible. One of my personal favorite events to get a sneak peek into was the Shopbop event. Their site just launched a complete rebrand, and I have to hand it to them because it’s equal parts vintage and modern. They hosted a huge fall-themed show complete with paper leaves on the ground and fall flower arrangements at the table. They decorated one whole room in mustard accents, which they’re predicting to be the color of the season. I personally am on board and am eagerly anticipating more NYFW updates to come from the runway over the next week.
Recently, I’ve been snapping so many beautiful friend photos!! Between sorority recruitment and adventuring, I’ve been accumulating a lot of lovely shots I want to display on my walls and in my room. Finding this little gadget was pretty neat. It allows you hook up your phone via Bluetooth and an app and print photos immediately — no ink required! The photo paper doubles as a sticker, so they could be hung or attached to something. It’s such a convenient tool and perfect if you want tiny keepsakes for on-the-go. I definitely will be using this a lot throughout the year — great gift idea for a college student!
I personally do not have my ears pierced — I get so squeamish around needles, and voluntarily subjecting myself to one (no matter how painless people have always told me it is) just isn’t my cup of tea. For that reason, I have been unable to wear conventional earrings — until now! Lisi Lerch is a company I’ve been familiar with because of their fun tassel earrings, but I didn’t know that they make those same styled earrings in clip-on versions too! The ones I’m wearing can be found here, but almost every pair on their site has a clip-on version as well. Talk about a new world of accessories! I’m eyeing these button pearl ones, these gold pearl disks, and these burgundy button ones for fall.
I really love hedgehogs…like a lot. I don’t ever talk about it on YC, because it’s my secret little cute obsession, but it is very, very present. This showed up on Instagram, and I immediately sent it to a few other hedgie lovers, because it’s so dang cute!! In addition to the #PSL (had my first yesterday, one week into September aha!), Starbucks also debuted little hedgehog cake pops. To say the least, I’m smitten!! I want to eat one immediately — like, get in my belly already, little hog pop!
I’m really excited about this, but I wanted to give a tiny explanation. A big part of receiving this position was because I run YC, but also because I’m active on UC Berkeley’s campus. I submitted a written and video application after someone reached out to me, and later, I found out I was selected to be an ambassador. Microsoft is a company I think is on the forefront of social change, especially with empowering women and girls — take a look at some of the videos on their Instagram, and you’ll see what I mean. I’m humanities major x2 (English and history) — not STEM at all! But being tech savvy is definitely part of a blogger’s job description. I’ll be spreading the word on campus and here about opportunities for students. I honestly can’t wait and am so happy to be part of this experience!
