It is so nice to be home for the holidays! Yesterday, I actually didn’t know what to do with myself. It felt like the first time I could just watch a movie and not multitask with anything else. Today, I’m off to do some shopping, decorate the house, and go watch our local boat parade (all of the boats in our harbor get decorated with music and lights). I love that I can focus on just YC for a few weeks, and of course, start creating a more detailed New York plan for my upcoming trip! Let me know in the comments below if there is anything specific you want to see on YC or Instagram.
1. My Brother is Going to Dartmouth!
My brother applied Early Decision to Dartmouth and found out yesterday that he was accepted! He was ecstatic to say the least, and I am one proud sister. He’s honestly just become such a capable, considerate, and confident young man, and I know he will thrive at the school. Good luck to everyone going through the college process! I promise you, it all will work out even if it’s not what you expect. College is all about facing the unexpected. Most of the time, you’ll find yourself surprised at how well it works out!
I’m Director of PR for a fashion group on Berkeley’s campus, and we host a semesterly fashion show — which was two Sundays ago. My role this semester was organizing a pre-show “Mocktail,” which ended up being an overall success! One of our sponsors for the show was this new tech beauty company called Biossance. They handed out free samples of this rose oil during the event, and I have gotten in such a habit of using it! Putting a little on after a shower is the most refreshing and hydrating addition to my routine.
If you’re a Spotify user, this is a really fun website to check out. It accumulates all of your music data (songs, artists, minutes listened, etc.) and presents it to you in an interactive series of questions. Turns out I was really into pop (no surprises there) and my top artists was Justin Horowitz, the main person who wrote the score of La La Land. Thinking back to how the La La Land Instrumentals playlist got me through last semester, it makes perfect sense. Comment below what was the most surprising thing about your recap!
This is on my top list of movies to see this season. It stars Hugh Jackman, Zac Efron, Michele Williams, and Zendaya, among others. The story follows P.T. Barnum and the inspiration behind the Barnum & Bailey Circus. I took a class a few semesters ago about the history of Broadway, and we learned extensively about how Barnum influenced New York and American entertainment. I’ve been watching the trailers and promotional interviews for the movie, and I’m hooked. Plus, it’s a musical drama, and I tend to be a sucker for a musical of any kind. 😉
My obsession with Gap’s pajamas this season continues! (See more here.) My mom always does Twelve Days of Christmas presents (for the 12 days before Christmas, we receive a little gift like a holiday-themed snack or accessory). When I got home yesterday, these pajama pants were one of the gifts waiting for me! They have little skiers on them and feel so vintage. The trim at the bottom is the perfect touch!
Recently, I’ve been reading a lot of these Refinery 29 articles. Each follows an individual woman or group of women and discloses their salary, expenses, and day-to-day life. Knowing that I want to live in New York, it’s so interesting to see how people exist on different salaries in the city. It gives more concrete substance to financial planning and strips away the overwhelmingness of it. Living just costs a lot of money, and as I’m trying to navigate the job market right now, these articles provide a lot of insight.
