Holiday #CastMeJCrew: Velvet Emerald Dress, Red Lace Pants, & Plaid Top

A few weeks back, I posted about the J.Crew Casting Contest. I think my style inspiration comes from everywhere — from fashion icons of the past, to places and architecture, to literature and films, to the women around me. People like my mom and friends consistently impress me with their fashion forwardness and creativity. One of my friends Alexandra has appeared in a few posts before. A personal favorite of mine was this apple picking post we did a few weeks back. When I’m at school, Alex has helped me countless times by stepping in as photographer and brainstorming post ideas with me. She’s secretly been wanting to give writing a blog post a try of her own, so for a very special feature post today, I am handing YC off to her!

Hi y’all! It’s such a pleasure to be guest writing this post for YC today. I’ve been thrilled to watch Hayles’ blog grow and see all of the beautiful content she has created.

When she asked me if I wanted to write a post, I couldn’t refuse. Especially when she asked if it could be a holiday post. Immediately, I thought of one of our go-to stores: J.Crew! We used this as a double opportunity to take to Instagram for the #CastMeJCrew campaign. Without hesitation, we decided to feature some of the festive pieces from their holiday collection, which is laden with plaid, candy-cane red and forest green — what more could you ask for?!

I’ve always really enjoyed putting together outfits; it is almost like a puzzle and creative challenge for me. I knew for this post we needed to go bold, merry, and bright😉 I wanted our outfits to compliment each other, but encompass all of the fabrics, patterns, and colors that the season necessitates.

I adore the lush velvet dress that Hayleigh is wearing. The color is rich, the shift-style is timeless, and the ruffle-hem adds just the right touch of femininity. I think it suits her (and the J.Crew repertoire) oh-so-perfectly. Her red lips add a festive touch to her look, and she’s completed it with understated block heels.

Truthfully, I had been waiting for the calendar to hit December 1st so I could bust out my holiday attire.

I love the signature J.Crew Stewart plaid shirt because the fit is feminine, but not too tailored. The deep navy background makes the bright, punchy red pop. I wanted to elevate this outfit beyond a pair of jeans, and these red lace pants did just the trick. They’re elegant and honestly feel like you’re wearing pajamas — talk about a score! I paired my outfit with a simple pair of black pumps and red lips as well.

The holidays are absolutely hectic, but are always a time of reflection for me. I think often on how the year has gone, how the upcoming year is shaping out, and everything I am grateful for — like all of my amazing friends and family!

Until the New Year, I’ll be decking the halls, playing Santa’s little elf, and eating lots of my favorite sweets. Happy holidays, and cheers to you & yours!
