A year ago today, I nonchalantly pressed “Publish” on Young Cosmopolite for the first time. It was after months of working nights and weekends pouring thought and love into my little secret project. For no particular reason other than impatience — I just wanted the thing to go live! — I picked Thursday, November 3 to release YC out into the world. Here is a link to the debut, my very first post one year ago.
In that post, I laid out a few promises to those I hoped would be readers. I wanted to do three quality posts a week (and when I could swing it, 4). I wanted to put together style guides that could be achieved with a students’ budget and city guides for my trips out and about. Most of all, I wanted to challenge myself creatively.
On these blogger milestones, a lot of people write posts titled something like, “What I’ve Learned Through Blogging.” I’ve read my fair share of them, and I could break down in a quick gist for you it’s that 1) blogging requires a lot of work…and time…and other people…and planning…and late nights…and innovation, 2) you become you’re harshest critic very quickly, and 3) generating a project of your own imagination, surrounded by people who help and support you is the most gratifying experience. But I don’t really want to dwell on those things for too long. Instead, I want this to be an ode to YC, because I truly couldn’t imagine my life without it.
I do YC because I love it. Because it lets me “meet” people like you. And be a voice for girls and college women. Because it’s where I learned to embrace myself for who I am. And hopefully encourage others to do the same. Because it brings me more happiness and creative “highs” than I even thought possible. There have been times things beyond my control have frustrated the heck out of me — if there’s one thing I’ve learned, it’s that it is way too easy in the blogosphere to forget how far you’ve come. But here are a handful of the favorite images that made me practically jump up and down when I first saw them on the camera monitor. And below, you’ll find a list of some of my favorite posts — the ones that made me smile from ear to ear once the finished product was complete.
This past year, YC has taught me so much about confidence, about being shameless — you have to swallow your fear and just put yourself out there. It has taught me about friendship — there are people in the world who will selflessly do things for you because they truly love and support you. And it has taught me about the success and sense of pride that comes with hard work — there is no greater feeling than seeing something from your imagination literally come to life.
I end this first year on my blogging journey a more vibrant, stronger person than I started, and I am so excited to continue brainstorming new content for YC and growing in such a positive way.
To every person who has helped me with YC — photos, ideas, stage mom-ing 😉 — I am so eternally grateful for your patience and support. YC is so special because of YOU!
To every company that has taken an interest in me, I have loved working with you and thank you for giving me the time and opportunity to do so. I look forward to future collaborations. 🙂
To every reader or Pinterest or Bloglovin’ or Instagram follower or subscriber, thank you x1,000,000! I couldn’t be happier to share a little piece of my life, style, and passion with you. I am sending love with my whole heart…it means more than you could ever know that you care enough to follow along.
I’ve also gone through and found some of the kind mentions that other bloggers and YouTubers have included in their content for YC. I so appreciate you. All of you.
