Catalina Corals: Draper James Floral Top

It’s August — how exactly did July go by so fast?! Fortunately, summer isn’t quite over, and I’m making the most of these final rays. My mom and I took a trip to Catalina Island over the weekend, and Avalon completely blew me away. You can see more pictures in this post here. For a second outfit of the trip, I opted for something bold! Warm reds and corals have been calling my name, and I decided it was time to give in.

Have you heard of Draper James? It’s a clothing brand that Reese Witherspoon started to honor her Southern heritage — the line is filled with bright skirts and shorts and shirts adorned with fun patterns and bows. I have been loving everything and when I saw this top, I knew I had to have it! Beside the sweet florals, I love the navy collar — it cuts the shirt off in a flattering way and is a beautiful detail. The sleeves are also bell style, which is the cutest feminine touch! I have to add — the fabric is amazing. It’s cotton and feels like a light sweatshirt — but still comfortable in the heat!

Quick disclaimer about these shoes — I got them on mega sale from Target, but this was because they’re completely out-of-stock everywhere. So, I linked a very similar pair of small wedges here, and pairs of similar slides here and here. No matter their statement color, I’ve been getting a lot of use out of them. Red is so versatile! I don’t understand how my closet lasted so long without a red pair of everyday shoes.

As for other accessories from this post — you may remember this little blue bag from this post, this post, or this post. I’ve been wearing it a lot over summer, and it’s been so nice not to lug around a big bag. I am also wearing a warm red lipstick from L’Oreal — it’s a collab they did a while back with Blake Lively (love her!) but the color is still available. I also have been loving cateye and oversized sunglasses like these black ones or the white ones from this post. Finally for my hair, I curled it and then pulled it into a high ponytail. I took a small section of hair from the bottom and tied it around, then secured it with a bobby pin to hide the elastic.

Catalina was absolutely stunning — sometimes the prettiest vacations (or staycations!) are right in your backyard! Next time, I’d only like to stay for longer. 🙂 Oh! And one last thing, we stumbled upon a little YC on our visit — talk about serendipity and finding things when you least expect them!
