There is something so romantic about September evenings — when the sun is hovering above the horizon, golden light peeking through the trees, the first batch of fallen leaves strewn on the ground. I love the earthiness of everything, especially how dark and deep the color palette becomes. This week, I wanted to focus particularly on roses and burgundies, as I find the pink-red spectrum a stunning addition to this fall line-up.
What draws me to a piece changes each time. Sometimes I pick it up (or click online!), because I see a unique detail, sometimes I feel drawn to the fabric, and sometimes it’s just because I love the color. In this case, it happened to be all three — the scallops peeking at the bottom, the soft suede, and the gorgeous rose hue inspired me to pluck this little dress from the rack. At under $50, it turned out to be a great idea!
Lately, I’ve been feeling that I need more simple, everyday, low-but-not-too-low heels. These tie-up wedges have been a wonderful staple for me — they are perfect with jeans as well (see this post here!). I also just ordered these block heels in taupe as a second everyday pair, and they would work with this dress as well.
For the rest of the look, I went with a much darker, more dramatic palette than I normally choose. I highlighted my eyes with shimmery browns, and then opted for a dark lip in a harvest fig-esque color with a matte finish.
Autumn is my favorite season, and maybe these posts welcoming it are a bit premature — the season officially starts a little over a week from today. For some reason, the season fills me with love and passion and nostalgia, and I personally am ready to dive in (particularly if it involves a huge pile of leaves). As William Cullen Bryant once said, “Autumn, the year’s last loveliest smile.”
